- Sessions on rural tourism at the Canadian Association of Geographers Conference
On May 28th, the Canadian Association of Geographers held a special session on "Rural recreation and tourism in Canada" in Ottawa. Insights from rural BC were well represented at the sessions as Nicole Vaugeois shared three sessions on "what makes tourism development in rural areas different", "innovation among small tourism businesses" and "adoption of sustainable tourism by rural operators".

- Students help the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association with blogging
University students from the "Blogosphere" recently visited Cariboo Chilcotin Coast tourism businesses, bringing a new perspective on marketing.
Social networking is taking the world by storm and changing the way travellers seek information and make travel plans. Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn etc. are all new methods of communicating and receiving information, and savvy businesses are taking advantage of them to help reach their customers.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) and operators in the region are pro-actively embracing the trend.

- Students conduct signage audit for Wildplay
Having effective signage is important for overall visitor experience. Students from Vancouver Island University recently conducted a signage audit for Wildplay Elements Park in Nanaimo. In their audit, students evaluated the overall directional and information signage on the journey to and around the facility. Scott Bastian, Tracy Simpson, Amanda Keir and Natalie Weir used the "how to manual" on community signage produced by TRIP to conduct their evaluation.
