A WORKSHOP ON VANCOUVER ISLANDBC is committed to making its tourism industry sustainable and has the potential to position itself as Canada's industry leader. Sustainability is especially important to those in rural BC since tourism products often rely on sensitive natural and cultural resources. A new initiative has been launched to foster innovation in sustainability in BC by Vancouver Island University in partnership with the University of Northern BC, Thompson Rivers University and College of the Rockies. BC is committed to making its tourism industry sustainable and has the potential to position itself as Canada's industry leader. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to learn from those already leading the way and then build on their successes. Sustainability is especially important to those in rural BC since tourism products often rely on sensitive natural and cultural resources. By identifying and showcasing these rural innovators, the industry will be in a stronger position to provide visitors with sustainable tourism experiences throughout the province.

- New How to Manual released by TRIP - understanding your visitor
One of the topics that is brought up by those involved in tourism development in rural BC is the need for local level market intelligence. By understanding who your visitors are and how they behave, you are in a better (and less risky) position to invest in products that will fit, and marketing tactics that will reach them. The Tourism Research Innovation Project (TRIP) is pleased to release a new "How to Manual" titled "Understanding your visitors: A manual to collect and use research in tourism development decisions".
