- BC Rural tourism conference - program information
This email is to make sure you are aware that Thompson Rivers University's School of Tourism at and partners are hosting the very first conference on Rural Tourism in BC. As many of you know, this is directly related to our work in rural communities through the RED TREE Project. Please help us get the word out about this conference.

- Follow the new blog on rural tourism development
Nicole Vaugeois, the BC Regional Innovation Chair for Tourism and Sustainable Rural Development, has developed a new blog on rural tourism. The blog is going to:
1. Take hard to digest research information from academic, industry and government sources and translate them, pull out the key points and discuss what I think they mean for rural areas;
2. Provide questions around important policy debates, industry issues and other events to help ignite inquiry, debate and dialogue that helps with decision making;
3. Share innovative ideas from businesses and communities that are doing things that others should know about;

- BC's first rural tourism conference - mark you calendars!
Over the years as we have travelled from region to region in BC with our students, we have met over 700 community leaders and business operators that shared their experiences in tourism development with the TRIP team. As early as 2007, the Advisory committee for the project agreed that it would be a good idea to host a conference on rural tourism to help bring people together to learn from one another and develop networks thoughout the province. Indeed, when we arrived in a new community, the first question we were asked was "so what are they doing in X community". There are few opportunities for rural leaders and operators to connect with others and learn new strategies that they can bring back to their community. - Sustainable tourism practices of rural BC operators: Study and manual released
The Fostering Innovation in Sustainable Tourism (FIST) project's goal is to diffuse innovation and build capacity in sustainable tourism practices within rural regions of BC by showcasing innovators, sharing their practices, and providing tools to build the competitiveness of the province. Beginning in February 2009, FIST is coordinated through Vancouver Island University in partnership with University of Northern BC, Thompson River University and College of the Rockies. The project has:
