Grizzly Bear Fund: Linking Compassion with Experience

Julius had been working as the Moscow correspondent for the UK’s Daily Telegraph when he felt it was “time for a change.” He came to Canada and drove from Toronto to Yellowknife. “It was a kind of therapy,” he says. Later on, he and Kristin happened across the ranch’s property in the Lardeau Valley when driving across B.C. They fell in love with it. The peace and solitude was a complete change from the war zones Julius had so much experience with. The Grizzly Bear Ranch was created for people needing to get away from their stresses, and the Grizzly Bear Fund was established to provide “a haven for journalists who work in war zones and need a break from the travails of their profession.”

Being associated with KOA has brought many benefits to Clearwater Valley Resort and indeed to Clearwater itself. The KOA name brings with it an established clientele that recognize the quality and amenities offered at KOA properties. They also have agreements with many RV companies where KOA materials are included in the RV rental package. This awareness of the KOA name actually convinces people to stay in Clearwater instead of moving on to the next town. The presence of a recognizable name for many visitors adds a degree of legitimacy to the destination. It establishes the quality of the area and helps to dispel any negative impressions visitors may have.

The KOA system also gives support in marketing the campground. At virtually every tradeshow in North America there are KOA representatives building the brand and providing travel information.
