Extension Tours
One of the best ways to share knowledge of tourism development is to take extended trips into the rural areas of the province. TRIP partners undertake a rural extension tour each spring to a different region of the province. In 2006 the project visited communities in the northern portions of AB and BC and in 2007 the team visited communities in Central BC. While on route, university students from the different academic institutions visit different communities to engage in dialogue with those working to develop tourism in rural areas. In some communities, the team gives customized presentations or workshops on topics while in others we conduct short studies or help individual entrepreneurs with business specific training. Throughout the trip though, the focus is to connect people with resources that will enable their success in tourism.
Plans are currently underway to design the extension trip to the Southern portion of the province. We are actively recruiting students to participate in this experience from the University and College partners in TRIP. Please contact the project coordinator for more information or check out the link below for details on how to apply.
