Regional Liaisons
After establishing relationships in rural areas on our extension tours, the TRIP model strives to continue supporting communities through the placement of regional liaisons who are senior level university and college students trained in tourism development. The role of these liaisons is to develop and maintain contact with entrepreneurs and community leaders, provide support and resources for regional projects and document innovative strategies being used.
In 2006, three regional liaisons were hired. Cameron Raushenberger from Thompson Rivers University was positioned in the Central region of British Columbia, Catherine Moores from the College of the Rockies worked out of the Kootenay region and Richard Giele from Malaspina University College worked out of Malaspina. Their collective insights are contained within their report (link to full version PDF)
In 2007, four regional liaisons were hired. Randy Love from Thompson Rivers University worked out of Williams Lake from the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association Office. Richard Crowley from Malaspina University College worked out of the College of the Rockies campus in Cranbrook. Dustin Bodnaryk from Malaspina University College worked out of the Northern Rockies Alaska Highway Tourism Association office in Fort St. John and Lea Thuot from Malaspina University College worked from Nanaimo for the Island region. Their collective insights can be found in their final report (link to full version PDF).
In 2008, TRIP will be modifying its model to allow for regional liaisions to be placed out of the different educational institutions during the academic year to coincide with the off season for communities. If you are interested in working as a regional liaison, contact the faculty member at your institution or the project coordinator for more information.
