How to Manuals

Many communities and tourism entrepreneurs have asked for user friendly "how to manuals" to help them develop tourism. Throughout the project, the TRIP team will be developing a series of manuals to guide tourism development.

Available manuals:

gang ranchWelcome!  A How To Manual to Enhance Community Signage and Visitor Experience

During our visits to communities we have learned that one of the most consistent topics that people want to have more information on is signage.

To assist communities to develop an effective signage program that boosts visitation and enhances visitor experience, the TRIP team has assembled a "how to manual" on community signage.

The manual contains:

  • Why signage is critical to tourism success
  • Examples of effective signage
  • Steps to developing strong signage in your community
  • Resources to help implement signage projects

Partnering to Produce Innovative Tourism Products: Packaging Unwrapped

Today's visitors are often time crunched and while they may desire to travel into BC's rural areas, products are often not easily accessible to them. Tourism packaging is a tool that operators can use to combine the best of their products with those of other operators to create "one of a kind" experiences. When operators package their products well, they make these opportunities easier to access thereby enhancing overall visitor experience.

British Columbia is full of products that visitors are seeking. Yet as the Tourism Research Innovation Project (TRIP) teams have been travelling around the province, we have noticed that operators are not taking full advantage of packaging. Many of you have asked for information on how to package and bring your products closer into contact with potential visitors. This tour packaging manual has been designed to provide operators with information on packaging including its benefits, steps to putting packages together and examples from elsewhere in the province. We hope the manual provides you with the insight you need to create extraordinary visitor experiences in all parts of BC.

Understanding your visitor: A manual to collect and use research in tourism development decisions

One of the other topics that is brought up by operators and destination marketing groups is the need for local level market intelligence.  By understanding who your visitors are and how they behave, you are in a better (and less risky) position to invest in products that will fit, and marketing tactics that will reach them.  The Manual on Understanding visiting markets outlines some types of information you can collect and use on your visitors as well as provide you examples of different approaches used to gather market intelligence.  The manual also outlines steps that you can take to initiate a research model to collect information in your business, community or region.
