The TRIP team gives presentations to different groups on aspects of tourism development. Research in Action: Tourism Vancouver Island Roadshow 2007

sunsetThis presentation was delivered to tourism stakeholders in Duncan, Nanoose, Tofino and Cumberland as part of the Tourism Vancouver Island annual road show in November 2007.  The presentation highlights research results from a value of tourism study conducted by Tourism Vancouver Island to determine BC resident support for tourism, as well as results from a survey of stakeholders for the association. It then outlines the TRIP project and focusses specifically on the role that effective community signage can have in visitor experience.

Informing rural tourism development through the rapid rural appraisal (RRA) method: Insights from Northwest Canada

This presentation was given by Nicole Vaugeois, Coordinator for TRIP, at the 2006 National Extension Tourism Conference held in Vermont, September 10-13, 2006.  It highlights the use of the rapid rural appraisal method to assist rural communities to identify tourism assets and potential including lessons learned in the application.

Diversification through rural tourism development: Insights and opportunity for input

TRIP was invited to speak at the Challenge North Conference held in High Level on April 5th to 7th 2006.  Nicole Vaugeois, Dan McDonald and Jeff Vos (student) from Malaspina University-College highlighted trends in rural tourism and observations from the 2005 extension tour throughout BC and Alberta.

Developing a rural lens: Perspectives on how to learn about and with rural communities

ash and amer shopThis presentation was developed and used to lead a workshop at the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) conference in Calgary in May 2006 (The Learning Stampede).  Developed by Nicole Vaugeois and Dan McDonald, TRIP team collaborators, the presentation outlines the value of engaging students in field work with rural communities based on their experience leading the extension tours for TRIP.

Working together: Respect as a basis for collaboration

This presentation was given by Dan McDonald (Malaspina University-College) and TRIP team collabortor at the November 2007 workshop on Aboriginal Tourism held in Quesnel, BC.  The day was organized and hosted by partners of the Learning Initiatives for Rural and Northen BC (LIRN BC).
